This report shares data and insights from more than 1,000 consultations between ZapCat energy advisors and households across metropolitan Sydney and regional New South Wales who participated in ZapCat-delivered community electrification programs.

This report presents findings from household engagement in ZapCat programs, drawing on data from 2,821 households across metropolitan Sydney and regional New South Wales who participated in ZapCat-delivered community electrification programs.

The report covers what has worked (and what has not) to engage households in ZapCat programs, including:

  • Which engagement channels have driven the highest levels of participation
  • Which messages have been most effective, and least effective, in engaging households
  • Which calls to action have been most successful in prompting households to take the next step
  • How engagement outcomes have varied by location and socioeconomic context, including implications for lower-income and vulnerable cohorts

Personas of the household energy transition

From surveys and over 1,000 household consultations, we’ve seen clear patterns in how people approach clean energy. While no two households are the same, common personas emerge, each with different needs. Understanding these helps us tailor the right support for every transition.

What helps households transition to clean energy?

To better understand what tools and resources households need, we conducted eight in-depth interviews in Sydney and followed this with a survey of 50 NSW homeowners, selected by a market research company to be broadly representative. This is what we found.
